Cursed by the yellow light of death, which according to Sony is very rare so duh, I guess we should have know it would happen to us!

So sad (and Im not being bloody sarcastic, my Rock Band is inside!)...

David tried heroically for 8 hours to fix it ....

he's going to try again tomorrow with a heat gun and some chewing gun type stuff, weird, but it might just work.

I'm sorry Steph. :(

I must say the pictures of David fixing it are priceless. Where are the diagrams and why aren't those parts labeled? :)

If you look closely, you'll notice the image on the laptop matches exactly the part of the dead PS3 I'm working on - as I did find a repair manual online (300 pages).

And note each internal piece is just lying on the table in a haphazard manner, it is actually sitting in a position relative to its place within the pretty black box that is a PS3.

LOL.

I have found the fix though, thanks to some dude named gilksy on YouTube who has an hour-long series of videos showing just how to re-flow solder on a PS3 motherboard to fix the YLOD problem.

It shall return from the dead.....

....hopefully long enough to get game save date out of the sucker.

This is a great post. I just had one of the ‘Doh!’ moments and ran back to correct my own site before publishing my comment. You see my own comment form did not match what I’m about to advice. I get less comment than you, so never noticed any problem. I’ve changed it now anyway so here goes.
